1980s Soviet tourist metal pin of a cat sitting next to a chained green oak tree. A pictorial representation of the poem Ruslan and Ludmila (Русла́н и Людми́ла), written by founder of modern Russian literature Alexander Pushkin (Александр Пушкин). It tells the story of the abduction of Ludmila, the daughter of Prince Vladimir of the Kievan Rus' (reigned 980–1015), by an evil wizard and the attempt by the brave knight Ruslan to find and rescue her.
Prologue
By the sea stands a green oak tree;
A golden chain strung round it:
And on the chain a learned cat
Day and night circles round it;
Walking right, he sings a song,
Walking left, he tells a tale.
