
1980s Soviet metal pin of Leontopodium (Эдельвейс), a genus of plants in the family Asteraceae. The fuzzy and stocky 'petals' (technically, bracts) could be thought of resembling lions' paws, hence the genus name is a combination of léōn (lion) and pódion (foot)
