1970s Soviet metal pin of Pinocchino (Пиноккио). The first translation of Carlo Collodi's book about Pinocchio into Russian was made in 1906. The complete translation was made by Emmanuel Kazakevich, a Russian and Jewish Soviet writer, and first published in 1959.
In Russia, Pinocchio served as the prototype for Buratino (Буратино)- the hero of the children's book by Alexei Tolstoy "The Golden Key, or the Adventures of Buratino " (1936). Buratino quickly became hugely popular among children in the Soviet Union, and remains so to this day (Buratino is one of the most popular characters of Russian children's literature).
