1970s commemorative Soviet metal pin of Baikonur (байконур), a spaceport in an area of southern Kazakhstan leased to Russia. It was originally built by the Soviet Union in the late 1950s as the base of operations for the Soviet space program. The Baikonur station is the world’s first and largest space exploration and shuttle launch facility, but it is also from here that the first artificial satellite and the first human spaceflight of the famous Yuri Gagarin were launched.

In 2002, the Buran prototype shuttles were unfortunately destroyed in a hanger collapse, hence left abandoned and frozen in time.
