1980s metal pin of theatre film actors (киноактер) in the Soviet era
The word 'theatre' (театра) comes from the word theatron, which is translated from ancient Greek meaning 'the place where they watch'. The theatre is symbolised by two masks depicting comedy and tragedy as the main genres of theatrical art. In Russia, theatrical performances are well-loved. The first Russian theatre artists can rightfully be considered the merry buffoons who entertained the nobility and the court boyars during the celebrations and played performances in the squares. Historians find the first mentions of the theatre of buffoons in the 11th century.
